Holy guacamole, it’s been a crazy day! It’s one of those come home from work-pour a large glass of wine-throw on your sweatpants-and plop your booty on the couch-kinda days. And don’t forget the big sigh.
If I were to pick a make up palette to match my relaxation-state-of-mind right now, it would be the Smashbox Softbox Eye Palette.
Ch-ch-check it out! (A little Beastie Boys shout out there)
“At Smashbox, photographers love shooting in the Softbox Studio. Glass windows let in a ton of natural light, creating a beautifully diffused look. Softbox lighting was the inspiration behind this palette.”
The palette includes 9 eye shadows (0.04oz ea), 2 cream eyeliners (0.05oz ea), Photo Finish lid primer (0.02oz), and a double ended shadow/liner brush. It’s $48.00 ($181 value) and limited edition.
I actually purchased this palette before I got the UD Naked Palette simply because I liked the combination of colors better. It combines warm and cool shades, and has 2 matte blending colors.
My thoughts: Bravo, Smashbox. This palette is a really gorgeous set of colors and really great quality. They’re pigmented, velvety, and blend easily. Nectar and Vanilla are a bit chalky, but that’s only if I’m being nit picky. Sugar is one of my favorite colors, ever! It makes a pretty lid color, or use it to blend out one of the browns. The liners, on the other hand, are just ok. They aren’t super pigmented (but since it’s supposed to be a “softer” palette I don’t know if they did that on purpose), but they also don’t have great staying power. Another downside, they’ll eventually dry out because of the cardboard closure.
And lastly, the brush!
It’s nice! Great quality. The right side is a fluffy eyeshadow brush, it’s great for putting a flush of color on the lid. The left side is for eye liner. The flat tip makes it easy to draw a thin, precise line or you can brush upward to soften the line.
