A good friend of mine (who shares a cosmetic addiction much like myself) has been urging me to try LUSH for months. She would spend hours gushing about how much she loved their products. I could always tell when she had visited a LUSH store, there was some extra pep in her voice.
Intrigued by this brand that had brought my friend so much joy, I finally had to go check it out for myself. I picked up some of their classic items and this scrub was one of them.
Now, I know some of you “Lushaholics” out there are probably saying, “Where have you been the past 2 years??!” In my defense, the LUSH craze hasn’t really hit the midwest yet. We’re too busy working in the corn fields, ya know.
It’s the LUSH Ocean Salt Face & Body Scrub.
Website description: Back in 2005, our inventors had come up with a number of fantastic cleansers but there was one category they had yet to conquer: The scrub! A sea salt scrub! With that, they whipped up (our now enormously popular) Ocean Salt. Washing with Ocean Salt is like taking your face on a trip to the seaside for an invigorating splash in the water. We mix in fresh avocado and coconut to hydrate thirsty skin, while the antibacterial effects of lime and vodka is ideal for blocked pores, blackheads or blemishes. The minerals in sea salt soften as it scrubs away dirt and blockages.
More from website:
- Suitable for all skin types: Ocean Salt is most beneficial for combination to oily skin.
- Our most exfoliating cleanser: Ocean Salt contains a combination of coarse and fine sea salt.
- For an invigorating scrub: Salt and citrus oils can cause irritation for sensitive skin types. If you’re quite sensitive, we suggest using a gentler product.
Packaging: A black pot with a twist off lid. It measures 3.5in tall, 3in across the lid, and the circumference is around 8.5in. I dislike the pot packaging, you have to dip your hand in there to get the product out. The twist top is also an inconvenience when you’re trying to use this in the shower.
Scent: It’s has a strong citrus scent with hints of lemon and lime. It’s too strongly scented for my personal taste and it gives me a headache if I’m around it for too long. But, for the most part, other users of this product seem to love the way it smells. I must be the minority.
Texture: The texture is what makes this product unique, it’s a gritty mix of sea salt (large and small particles) in a cream base. It is very abrasive, but the salt particles eventually dissolve and you’re left rubbing the cream into your skin.
Usage: This works great for the body, you can rub it on your wet skin for a light exfoliation. Or, you can use it on damp, slightly dry skin for a more abrasive scrub. It’s a bit harsh for the face, while this is a good exfoliator you really don’t need to scrub your face that hard. It should never hurt. My suggestion for face usage: lightly massage in circular motions. Love your face, don’t hurt it
Who would like this: Anyone looking for an abrasive scrub that can be used for the body and face (just be careful on your face!). This is great to use before a spray tan.
Who wouldn’t like this: Someone with thin, sensitive skin. I would also strongly recommend people with lots of acne to not use this on their face, the stimulation will make it worse.
It’s a very unique product that’s fun to use (naming it “Ocean Salt” was a genius move on LUSH’s part). It has some unique ingredients (like lime extracted in vodka) and I was delighted to see seaweed on the ingredients list. My biggest beef with it is the packaging and the price tag. Since it’s on the pricier side (it’s about $4 per ounce), I would’ve liked to see better constructed packing that’s more user-friendly.
While it’s not a miracle worker, it’s still a solid scrub.
