Rimmel Natural Bronzer, Review

A good bronzer is hard to find.  They are sometimes cursed with the beard, or even worse, the oompa loompa effect.  I had low expectations when I got this cheapie from the drugstore, but will it turn out to be a pleasant surprise?

Rimmel says:  Natural looking bronzing powder for a healthy tanned look all year long.  Get a warm glow all over. This light, natural looking bronzing powder gives you the perfect sunless tan you want… any time of the year. Hello Sunshine!  $5.79 for 0.49oz.

Overall:  It’s a nice drugstore bronzer.  The color is very warm, it may appear orange on pale or cooler skin types.  It didn’t swatch well with my finger, but to my surprise it works beautifully with a contour brush.  The scent is slightly off-putting although it’s not detectable when wearing it.  If you have warm medium toned skin, this is definitely worth checking out.

Glitter Rating: 3.5 / 5

Packaging:  Circle measuring 3.2in across, 0.5in tall, and the circumference 6.5in.  The clear cap twists on to the bottom, but not very securely.  It feels a bit flimsy, but since the product is very inexpensive I can’t say I expected too much from it.

Color:  A warm, rusty, sienna brown.  Sun Light is the lightest of 3 shades.  Although, when I was examining them at the store, the colors looked minimally different in the package.  It compliments my warm NC30 skin, but anyone lighter than that may find it looks a bit orange on them.

Formula:  It goes on sheer but has buildable coverage.  It is lightly scented, so keep that in mind if you have sensitive skin.  When I first swatched this with my finger, it felt hard as a rock and I could barely get it to show up on my skin.  From that experience I thought I was going to be disappointed with the product, but I’m glad I didn’t give up.  I dipped my MAC 109 (contour brush) in it and to my surprise, the fibres picked up quite a bit of product!  It applies smoothly, just be careful to not apply too much, or else you will look like you have a beard.

Longevity:  5-6 hours.

Application:  I use this bronzer to contour, and it works beautifully with the MAC 109.  If you wanted a more subtle glow, you could use a softer natural fibre brush.  Although keep it mind it already applies pretty sheer, so it would be a very subtle glow.
