Battle of the: Eyeliner Pens

I love love love eyeliner pens, they are definitely my preferred method of applying liquid liner.  This is also the tool that I used to master the art of winged liner.  It’s only natural that I’ve accumulated a few dozen in my collection (and tried almost everyone out on the market).  Here today, I’m going to compare some of my favorites:

Marbella 24hr Semi-Permanent Eyeliner VS. Palladio Eye Ink VS. Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner VS. Kat Von D Tatoo Liner VS. Bombshell Eyeliner

*Iron Chef voice* Let the battle begin!

Marbella 24hr Semi-Permanent Eyeliner

Marbella says: Smudge-proof color, waterproof formula won’t smear, smudge or fade for more than 24 hours.  Smooth formula glides on with the ease of a pencil and the color intensity of a liquid liner.  Felt tip easily glides to create delicate to dramatic lines to emphasize your eyes with precision.  100% Natural formula is dermatologist-tested and safe hypo-allergenic.  Easily removes with any makeup cleanser, just rub eye gently with cleanser until the line is gone.  Duo Tip, turn the tip around and use the other end of the tip as a new pen.  $24(on sale for $11.99)/Diosa Cosmetics, Amazon.

My thoughts:  When they say semi-permanent… they mean it.  This actually stains my skin, even after I remove it with eye makeup remover.  It leaves behind a faint blue stain.  It’s nothing that’s too bothersome to me, a little makeup will easily cover it up the next day.  The pigmentation is slightly lacking and the it has a thicker tip (it’s harder to get a precise line), but still workable.  The duo tip is a nice idea, but very messy when you’re flipping it (I feel like I’m wasting a lot of product).

Palladio Eye Ink

Palladio says: A revolution in cosmetics, these ultra sophisticated and extremely handy liquid liners come in a convenient pen form that’s small enough to fit inside your pocket! The petite design and felt-tip offer an effortless application, while fast-drying, high-intensity color won’t wear or smudge.  $6.00/Ulta, Sallys, Amazon.

My thoughts: This started out really nice, it has a precise felt tip and a pigmented liquid liner.  However, it wore out pretty quickly (about 2 months of using 1-2x a week).  It’s the least expensive of the bunch, but also the smallest.

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

Eyeko says: Featuring a long-lasting pigmented formula, this black eyeliner has an easy-to-apply, pen-style nib, allowing you to create thick feline flicks and defined lines for a smudge-proof finish. Apply a thin line along the lash line and inner rim or smudge outside the rim for a sultry, smoky effect. This gratifying, color-intense liner doesn’t flake or fade and adds a unique touch to any look. $16/0.07oz (the  mini is only available in sets). Sephora, Amazon.

My thoughts:  This has a firm precise felt tip with jet black liner.  It makes it easy to draw a thin line with the option to make it thicker by flipping the pen to its side.  It comes in two sizes.

Kat Von D Tatoo Liner

Kat Von D says: Achieve dramatic eyes and create temporary tattoos with this water-resistant must-have that brings out the artist in you. The innovative brush tip makes it easy to make your personal vision a reality.  $18/0.02oz. Sephora, Amazon.

My thoughts:  This one is similar to the Eyeko, but the tip isn’t as firm.  The liner is super black and lasts all day.  I also noticed that this pen is identical to the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner pen.  I’ll bet they’re made in the same lab…

Bombshell Eyeliner

Bombshell says: Achieve dramatic eyes and create temporary tattoos with this water-resistant must-have that brings out the artist in you. The innovative brush tip makes it easy to make your personal vision a reality. $14/Be A Bombshell Cosmetics.

My thoughts:  Pigmented liquid liner with more of a “Sharpie” like felt tip.  It’s full force when it comes to pigmentation.  This is the thickest pen of the bunch, so you can’t get as thin of a line compared to the other pens.

And the winner is. . .

The Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
The firm felt tip really makes this the standout product.  It makes it easy to control.  It also has the best value (with the exception of the Palladio one, which wore out very quickly).
