Three Favorite Skincare Serums

What is a serum?  “A serum is a skin care product that has a higher concentration of active ingredients, usually comes in a gel or creamy gel form.” {source}  The molecules are smaller so they can penetrate deeper into the skin.  They are meant to be used under your moisturizer.

What does it do?  There are hundreds of serums out on the market that are targeted towards different skincare concerns.  Some are anti-aging, some promote hydration, and some deliver vitamins and anti-oxidants to the skin.

When it comes to skincare concerns, we’ll just say I’m concerned about everything on my face.  Aging?  Check.  Dehydration?  Check.  Vitamins and antioxidants?  Check.  Again again?  Check check.  These are my favorite serums that target different skin concerns.

This was the first serum that actually made a noticeable difference in my skin.  It uses AHAs to gently exfoilate and resurface.  It also uses the apple stem cell technology to protect the skins own cells.  And let me tell you, this thing is ACTIVE.  I know some people can’t use it every day, but my skin can handle it.  You can use this AM and PM.  This is great for anyone with aging concerns.

This makes my skin so silky smooth!  It has anti-aging ingredients as well as ingredients that help protect the skin.  This is a very gentle, moisturizing serum that any skin type could use (AM and PM).  This is ideal for dry or dehydrated skin.

Makeup for Beginners, Vol. 3: Concealer

Concealer:  What exactly does it conceal?  Your deepest darkest secrets?  That you accidentally ate a whole row of Oreos?  That you’re sitting at work with the first button of your pants unbuttoned?  Or, the fact that you are running on 4 hours of sleep and three cups of coffee?  All of the above?

What is it?:  Concealer is a flesh-colored paste-like cosmetic that comes in a stick, tube, pot or pencil form.

*This is not to be confused with a corrector, which is the opposite color to even out discoloration.  Example: Green reverses red, pink compliments yellow, etc.*

What does it do?:  It is used to cover under eye circles, cover blemishes, and hide any discoloration on the face.

How do I use it?:  The most common area where concealer is applied is the under the eyes.  Start on the inner corner of the eye and blend along your orbital bone (make a C shape).  That is where the dark circle is most prominent.  Blend the product up to the lower lash line (continuing that “C” motion).  There is also usually a bit of redness on outer corners of the nose, right outside the nostrils.  You can apply on that area (also in a C shape), and continue to blend out as needed.  It can also be applied to the outer corners of the lips, further defining them and hiding any discoloration.  Apply to blemishes and hyperpigmentation as needed.

You did it, you got through the week!  Have you guys been watching the Olympics?  Seriously, Olympians are amazing.  I watched pole vaulting for the first time and let me tell you:  Mind. Blown.

Blushing with Bobbi Brown

Me:  ”I got this really pretty blush from Bobbi Brown!”

Significant other:  ”… he makes makeup?”

Me:  *rolls eyes*  Yes, the lead singer of New Edition is into the high-end cosmetics business.  That makes perfect sense.

Silly boyfriend talk aside, the makeup artist Bobbi (with an i) Brown makes some amazing products.  This blush is no exception.

A good concealer can hide dark circles, cover up blemishes, and even out any redness in the skin.

A good concealer gives that extra coverage when foundation just isn’t enough.

A good concealer is never cakey and lasts all day.

A really good concealer can be your best friend.

Born to Sparkle with Bobbi Brown

When I was a kid, I used to tell people that I was born to sparkle.  Grown ups would laugh and play along, thinking I was just a typical Barbie-loving little girl.  Well now in my adult life I still tell people that I was born to sparkle and I don’t get quite the same reaction.  People still laugh a little, but when the see the crazy look in my eye that says “I’m not kidding” they usually get a little uncomfortable.

I say, oh well, I think everyone likes to sparkle in some way :)   Here’s one product that helps me on my journey to add more shimmer to my delusional world:

One Last Update From the Road

Favorite Green Eyeshadows for the Holidays

This whole week I’ve been wearing obnoxious make-up looks to go to the office.  Shimmery eyeshadows, sparkley blush, glitter lipgloss… what’s the occasion?  It’s the holidays, of course!  One of my favorite things that I’ve been playing with is green eyeshadow, and I wanted to share with you guys some of my favorites!
