Emerald “made me” Pretty Palette

14 Nov

Sephora says:A unique palette of shimmery, high-payoff shadows inspired by a magical, far-off place.   Infused with crushed pearls and diamond and porcelain powder, this set of shadows is like jewelry for your eyes. The shades of olive green, shimmering aqua, and iridescent white were carefully created by Tarina to capture the essence of The Emerald City in the bejeweled Land of Oz. From sweet to wicked, these intense formulas offer shimmery payoff and ultra-high pigmentation. Quality ingredients ensure long wear and shades can be applied either wet or dry.

Glinda’s Kiss: Iridescent white.  This frosty white shade applies beautifully, it works great as an under brow highlight and in the tear duct.

Silver ShoesPearlized silver.  The most “powdery” compared to the rest of the shadows.  It still applies smoothly and has great color payoff.

Dandy LionPearlized olive green.  Probably the most unique color out of the bunch, it’s a warm medium green with a hint of yellow.  It’s smooth and pigmented.

Saw Dust HeartMatte deep brown.  I don’t know how someone could be excited about a matte dark brown, I have about 2.5 billion in my current collection.  But somehow, this one really wowed me.  The texture is like butter, it’s very smooth, and the color payoff is amazing.  It’s tad too dark for my brows (NC30 skin, dark brown hair), but this applies and blends like a dream.

OzmaPearlized aqua blue.  The beauty of the color teal?  EVERYONE looks good in it.  While this color is easily dupe-able, it’s still a nice, smooth, pigmented eyeshadow.

Very WickedPearlized emerald green.  I wouldn’t call this an emerald green in any way shape or form.  It’s a dark forest green, it looks more grayish in the pan but comes out more green when applied.  Smooth and pigmented!

Overall
The eyeshadow formula is amazing!  Every shadow is smooth and pigmented with a buttery texture, what more could you ask for?  I really like the color selection, nothing is too bright, and the colors come off as almost “secondary neutrals,” meaning you could wear them with anything and it just “works.”  The brightest of the bunch is Ozma, but as I mentioned before, teal looks good on everyone!  The eyeshadow pans are HUGE, 0.9oz (compared to the 0.5 that most palettes have).  The only thing I dislike is the packaging, it’s large, flimsy and wastes a lot of space.  The cardboard is sturdy, but the magnetic closure isn’t very tight.  As far as the formula goes, A+!

Glitter Rating: 4.5 / 5

Where: Sephora, Amazon. Price: $22.00 (originally $36)/6 0.9oz eyeshadows.

$7 MAC Paint Pots?

28 Feb

It seems like I’m always in a hurry in the mornings.  After I get done washing my face, I slap some primer on my face and lids, throw on some random colors from my Naked Palette and finish the rest in the car.  Wouldn’t it be nice to find an eyeshadow that’s also a primer?  Well, I’ve found just that.

Lets take a look!  It may save you a few precious minutes in your rushed mornings! (more…)

How To Repress Broken Eyeshadows

10 Dec

Sleeping past your alarm and rushing into work is a bummer.  Stubbing your toe is a bummer.  Overeating and then hating your self with self remorse … is a bummer (unless it’s Chipotle).  Do you know what the biggest bummer of all is?

Broken eyeshadows.  Yeah, I know.  Serious stuff.  I saw you flench when you read that.

I placed an order online through Stila, when my package arrived I excitedly ripped open the package and started digging in.  Everything was dandy until:

Oh the horror!  I shake my fist at you, US Postal Service!

After overcoming my feelings of sadness and anger, I picked myself back up and got to work- and I put it back together  How?  Take a look!  (more…)

Naked 2 Palette, swatches and comparisions

8 Dec

If you recall about a week ago I posted some hardcore breaking news on here: Urban Decay was coming out with a sequel to their classic Naked palette, the Naked 2.  The world stood still for a moment.

The original Naked Palette came out in the summer of 2010 and took the make-up world by storm.  It’s a sleek, well designed neutral palette containing 12 full size (0.5oz) eyeshadows for $45.   That equals to less than 4 bucks per eyeshadow (which normal costs $17 for 0.5 oz.).  Genius, Urban Decay, genius.

They were smart to come out with a sequel, because I sure took that bait… I was one of the lucky 5,000 to purchase one the weekend that it came out.  So… is it worth the hype?

Too Faced Sweet Dreams, Holiday 2011 Palette, Review

25 Nov

There are so many things to love about the holiday season.  Time with family, good food, decorations, dressing my dog up like an elf, and…. holiday make-up!  It’s one of the best times to branch out and try new brands because lots of the companies will put together several products and put a low price tag on it.

One of the palettes I was most excited to try out was the Too Faced Sweet Dreams Makeup Collection, exclusively at Sephora ($52).  It features 15 eyeshadows (0.3oz ea), 2 blushes (0.8oz ea), 1 bronzer (0.14oz), and 1 highlighter (0.14oz).  It’s a $186 value.

Check it out! (more…)
