Algenist Pore Corrector Anti-Aging Primer, Review | Peace Love and Glitter

Algenist Says: This antiaging primer is formulated with Alguronic Acid and seven powerful ingredients to visibly refine pores, blur fine lines and imperfections, and improve skin texture and tone over time. It evenly distributes onto the skin, smoothing the skin while prepping it for long-lasting makeup wear.

I’ve been giving primers the shaft lately and using a BB or CC cream under my foundation.  I had almost forgotten they existed until this little guy showed up in my gratis bin at work.  Since my pores are the size of the Panama Canal, this definitely caught my attention.  Here’s some of the active ingredients:

-Alguronic Acid: Supports natural cell regeneration for brighter, smoother, younger-looking skin.
-Salicylic Acid: Exfoliates dead skin cells and unclogs pores.
-Lentil Seed Extract: Tightens pores and decreases pore slackening by reinforcing skin’s collagen.
-Hibiscus Flower Extract: Supports natural cell turnover and strengthens moisture barrier for more even, refined skin.
-Ejitsu Rose Flower Extract: Visibly reduces the appearance of pore size.

The texture is light and feels almost like a lotion.  This is a silicone based primer so there is a bit of slip to it when applied to the skin.  It’s very lightweight and lightly scented (I’ve noticed that most of the Algenist products I have smell the same).  I’ve used it under several different foundations (powder and liquid) and it provided a nice base for the makeup to flow right over it.  It wears for about 8 hours, which is what I would expect from a good primer.

My favorite part of the product:  It does actually reduce the appearance of my ginormous pores.  There are before and after pics later in the post, and they speak for themselves.  While nothing can actually shrink pores, reducing the appearance is the next best thing.  I also found that it took out some of the redness and inflammation in my skin.  This doesn’t make my skin shiny, it does a nice job of oil control (must be that salicylic acid).  My skin is naturally oily, so no matter what I use I always have to blot mid-day.

I’ve been using this every day for about a week and a half, so I can’t really speak for its long-term anti-aging claims.  However, I can say that it makes my skin feel nice!

If you’re concerned with pore size this is definitely worth checking out.  The texture is lightweight and it feels very soft and smooth when applied.  It actually does “fill in” my giant pores while also reducing some inflammation in my skin.  The salicylic acid also helps control my oily t-zone.

Makeup for Beginners, Vol. 1: Primer

8 Aug

As a makeup junkie, I tend to get caught up in the cosmetic world.  If you are new to makeup or just want to spruce up your beauty regimen, it’s hard to know where to start.  Beauty blogs are a great resource but may be intimidating to the “average” reader.  That’s where my new series comes in:

We are going to start with the basics!  First up, primer!

$7 MAC Paint Pots?

28 Feb

It seems like I’m always in a hurry in the mornings.  After I get done washing my face, I slap some primer on my face and lids, throw on some random colors from my Naked Palette and finish the rest in the car.  Wouldn’t it be nice to find an eyeshadow that’s also a primer?  Well, I’ve found just that.

Lets take a look!  It may save you a few precious minutes in your rushed mornings! (more…)

Monistat Chafing Gel vs. Smashbox Photo Finish Primers

20 Dec

These two products are said to be very similar, even some people on MakeupAlley would argue that they’re exactly the same.  While the chafing gel is obviously not meant to be used as a primer, someone, somewhere, somehow decided to use this on their face.  And isn’t it always great to find a great beauty product with a low price tag?  So to say that this $7 gel works the same as the Smashbox $36 primer… is it too good to be true?

*Please note, that is a sample size of the Smashbox
